Kane Music recently visited an educational centre – Buds Educare, for an outreach programme designed to introduce students from standard 1 to secondary school to the world of musical instruments through engaging, accessible, and hands-on learning experiences. Led by Kane and Ms. Ng Shu Chee, the sessions were thoughtfully tailored to different age groups with the aim of showing that making music can be fun and meaningful.

The session began with self-introduction to cheer up the atmosphere between teacher and students and to know each other, followed by the activity ‘Colour of the Winds’, where students were given illustrated handouts of orchestral instruments and required to actively observe and identify musical instruments while watching a video performance of Joe Hisaishi’s My Neighbor Totoro by the HKBU Symphony Orchestra. The students are enthusiastic as many of them accurately recognised the instruments on screen. which were further nurtured through Miss Shu Chee’s explanations of instrument names and the unique characteristics of their sounds, allowing students to appreciate the different “colours” of wind instruments.

The programme continued with the shining piper session conducted by Kane, where students were introduced to a beginner-friendly, flute-like instrument and guided to play “Hot Cross Bun” together in under five minutes. The student was curious at first and started to actively participate in it.

We are grateful to Buds Educare for the warm collaboration and shared commitment to education, and we look forward to more opportunities to continue supporting music learning and community engagement in the future.
